# Down to The Last Detail: ARC Teams Up with Shell Oil Company

Many times you don’t have to stray too far from the ship to accomplish this.

[ARC Document Solutions](https://blog.e-arc.com/) had been loosely working with oil and gas companies for many years. But the company has traditionally been focused on the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industries.

Recently, however, Shell Oil Company and some of its terminals in Canada required that the hard copy of critical drawings containing detailed technical information be converted into electronic versions.

Terminals are the facilities where large trucks fill up on gasoline for distribution to retail stations. Every terminal drawing contains information pertaining to anything from mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation, to civil and structural details. They are referred to as critical because if anything goes wrong within the terminal, they can be utilized during an emergency to mitigate the problem.

This wasn’t a simple scanning job. ARC was tasked with providing detailed data entry to accompany the scans. This meant indexing the drawings to specific database search fields in their new Electronic Data Management System.

2,500 drawings later, the project was uploaded to the ARC cloud where Scott Scheuber, ARC’s Houston Regional Technology Solutions Specialist, downloaded the files to a flash drive and delivered them to the client.

The success of this project, which lead to the following review, was predicated on a strategy that covered all of Shell’s concerns to the last detail.
